When I first read Mark Sisson’s Primal Blueprint I caught myself laughing out loud early on as he described his eating habits during his competition days. I was never a competitive runner nor an athlete of Mark’s caliber but his eating routine at that point in time directly matched my gym rat years through and post college – Five to seven small meals with a mixture of whole grains, lean proteins, low in fat. I’ll refer to this as the “Conventional Wisdom” diet throughout this post. I worked out a ton and my physique looked good, but I took Aciphex for my indigestion and acid reflux, Naproxen for tendonitis, and experimented with every herbal OTC supplement I could find to combat inflammation. I was on a nickname basis with my GI doc and a frequent contributor to my physical therapist’s 529 plan. An old boss once told me I was like a vintage car – it looked good but needed a lot of maintenance. He nailed it.
I’d say I “hit rock bottom” from an inflammation perspective when I had to budget a supplement category in my financial planner just to mask my tendonitis pain. The indigestion sometimes had me closing my eyes with my head on the desk just to wait it out regardless of how this looked to my co-workers. Could this diet and exercise pattern I was so smug about be the cause? Then I read about excess glucose in the bloodstream and it’s impact on inflammation. Well I tried everything else; let’s see how this works for me. [..]
I still remember how I felt when I signed up to train with MyBootcamp.
It was about eight months ago. I was tired of feeling unhealthy, having very little stamina and not looking like the person I remembered being. You see, back in the day, I was proud of my appearance. And while being attractive didn’t define me, she was a person I liked being. And I missed her.
So when I heard about MyBootcamp, I was fascinated… and a little terrified too. [..]
